Takeaways from the Buffalo Sabres Victory Over Montreal
Going into this season, I think every hockey fan, including Buffalo fans, expected the Sabres to be a bad team. However, they looked like a really good team last night as they beat the Montreal Canadiens 5-1. In this article, I’m going to give you some Buffalo Sabres takeaways from the game last night.
Great Performance Overall

I know it’s only one game but all around, it was a very impressive effort by the Sabres last night. From the first line to the fourth line, offensively and defensively, Buffalo played well. When it comes to special teams, the power play and penalty kill units were solid. Lastly, Craig Anderson played a great game. I don’t want to overreact because it is only one game but it was so refreshing to see this team play a great hockey game all around because it’s been awhile since they played a good all around game.
Kyle Okposo Played His Best Game As A Sabre

Another takeaway for me was Kyle Okposo. I’m not being dramatic but last night, Okposo played his best game as a member of the Sabres. A few years back, Kyle signed with Buffalo on a 6 year deal and the last few years have not worked out liked the organization hoped it would. After coming to the Sabres from the New York Islanders where he was a point producer and on the top line, Okposo has been on Buffalo’s fourth line for most of his tenure with the Sabres. During the game last night, he looked like a different player. He looked like the player who was with the Islanders. It’s the first game of the season but I was really impressed with Kyle last night.
Casey Mittelstadt Injury Update

I don’t like wrapping up my articles with negative content but Casey Mittelstadt got hurt last night and will not practice today. During a quick break last night, Casey tried to see if he could finish the game but he couldn’t. The Sabres said it’s an upper body injury and we’ll know more during practice today but it’s not encouraging to hear that he won’t practice.
Onto the Next One

Last night was fun and Buffalo will look to win another one as they will host the Arizona Coyotes for a matinee game on Saturday afternoon with puck drop taking place @1pm.
