Stuart Scott Will Forever Be Cooler Than the Other Side of the Pillow

To inspire is to fill someone with the urge or ability to do or feel something, especially to do something creative. People look for inspiration in so many ways and mediums to energize themselves. I was going through YouTube and came across a video that I must have watched ten times or so in the last couple of years. I stumbled on Stuart Scott’s speech at the ESPY’s when he accepted the Jimmy V Award. Keep in mind, I wasn’t looking for the video for any particular reason. But when I saw it, I watched it again.

I felt inspired from his speech and in a year in which as a whole hasn’t been the greatest, I wanted to take a moment and look back at someone who in the face of the biggest fight of his life, he was still inspired. Inspired to live and live for his girls. The ESPY’s speech is Scott’s last television appearance.

Today would have been Stuart Scott’s birthday. He will forever be remembered for his humorous catchphrases, his way to narrate sports and most importantly being a father. I will forever remember his catchphrase’s and his delivery of them. He said things that we the viewers felt and said them in a way we could all relate.

  • You ain’t got to go home, but you got to get the heck up outta here.
  • Like gravy on a biscuit, it’s all good!
  • Just call him butter ’cause he’s on a roll

I remember the day he passed away and I was watching ESPN, I remember watching live as Hannah Storm struggled to tell the world that Scott had passed away from his battle with cancer.

The purpose of this post was to not make you feel sad, but hopefully you could think back on a man who we would watch growing up on SportsCenter. A man we would look forward to and his breakdown of sports clips with Rich Eisen. When I watch Scott’s video’s towards the end of his life, I feel inspired to try and be better. Take a minute on this Sunday and find something that inspires you.

“When you die, that does not mean that you lose to cancer,” he said that day. “You beat cancer by how you live, why you live and in the manner in which you live. So live. Live. Fight like hell. And when you get too tired to fight, then lay down and rest and let somebody else fight for you. That’s also very, very important. I can’t do this ‘Don’t give up thing’ all by myself.”

Stuart Scott will forever be as cool as the other side of the pillow. Happy Birthday.
