Aaron Rodgers has a decent gig as the starting quarterback of the Green Bay Packers. He also wanted to be the new host of Jeopardy! following the death of Alex Trebek.
Sony Pictures is in advanced talks with Jeopardy! executive producer Mike Richards to become the new host.
The deal is currently not done, but reportedly in “advanced stages”.
Richards has an extensive background in television. The 46-year-old, who just joined the production last year, impressed Sony Pictures during his guest-host stint earlier this year.
Richards previously hosted the series “Divided” and “The Pyramid” for Sony Pictures’ GSN cabler. He has also hosted a slew of other programs such as “High School Reunion” on The WB network. In addition he worked on the “The Price Is Right” in 2008 as a co-executive producer.
Richards will beat out Rodgers, Jeopardy! folk-hero Ken Jennings, LeVar Burton and many more.
For Rodgers, not getting the gig comes on the heels of him reporting to Packers camp and restructuring his contract.
Rodgers guest-hosted earlier this year and stated if he was offered the role to host, he’d take it.
“Hell yeah, I would,” Rodgers told USA TODAY. “Look, it’s my second-brain job. I love the show and have a deep, deep affection for it. Not only is it a nostalgic connection to my childhood, but it’s a really special show to me and I had a great time with everybody that works there.”

Instead, Rodgers will enter this season presumably his last with Green Bay. The relationship between the quarterback and organization has been rocky as of late. The future Hall-of-Famer will have a chance to follow in the footsteps of Tom Brady following the season.
While Rodgers tries to figure out what his life on the football field will look like, off the field it will not feature him as the next host of Jeopardy!. Nothing is official yet regarding Richards being the successor to Trebek but as the old saying goes, where there is smoke, there’s fire.
To me, Jeopardy! should be more about the questions, Daily Doubles and Final Jeopardy!. I personally don’t care who will host the game show, Rodgers would have been cool because he’s a NFL superstar. Honestly, I have no clue who Richards is, but I trust Sony will entrust the right person to engage fans from their couch and recliners to answers the game’s questions.
If I was choosing the next host of Jeopardy!, it would be Will Ferrell from SNL as his Trebek character. He was hilarious as Trebek and there were so many memorable lines and moments from his character and Sean Connery from SNL.
