Welcome back to another edition of #SoccerSaturdays!

In this weeks’ blog, we get to cover the 2021 FA Cup Final and fully get into the action. Let’s not waste anymore time as this was quite the match between Chelsea and Leicester City FC. In case you missed it, your 2021 FA Cup Champion is…

LEICESTER CITY WINS FA CUP!

Congratulations to the 2020/2021 FA Cup winners, Leicester City!

Leicester City has been on a tier ever since climbing to Premier League securing top 5 spots and even winning the Premier League Title in their first season. For this years’ squad, it has been a roller coaster ride but their hopes for victory and glory have never wavered.

Brendan Rodgers took over this club as manager and has been an exceptional leader all around for Leicester. His management style has truly flourished for a young team clinging to hopes of glory and this weekend marked the first step towards that in legendary fashion.

Leicester City wins their first ever FA Cup Title thanks to a 63rd minute goal by the one and only Youri Tielemans! Congratulations Leicester City!

How the Teams Lined Up!

Today’s clash between the Leicester City foxes and the Chelsea blues was one many should’ve watched. Starting with the fact, that both teams ooze talent and even both teams are currently in the top 5 for this years’ Premier League season.

Chelsea, who ever since Thomas Tuchel took over has gotten a massive face lift came out with their A game. Tuchel announced a lineup consisting of a deep offensive attack with the likes of Ziyech, Mason Mount, Kante and Timo Werner upfront. On the wings, the Spanish duo of Azpilicueta and Marcos Alonso took care of things. Providing an opportunity for Chelsea to play with a 3-4-2-1 formation that at times looked more like a 5-3-1-1 formation as well.

Meanwhile, Leicester came out with a 3-4-1-2 formation. Giving the offense an opportunity to fire at Chelsea from either end whether it was Vardy, Iheneacho or the lethal combination of Ayoze Perez and Tielemans.

The Game Itself – Overview and Controversy!

Saturday’s FA Cup final game between these two brought a highly competitive match as expected.

While the Blues maintained possession of the ball at most times (65%), the Foxes managed to capture the moment as needed. If you were to look at the statistics of the game, you would say Chelsea really dominated this game. They made the most out of this game but unfortunately, it would be the Foxes to set the last laugh.

However, this final wouldn’t be a final if there wasn’t controversy. At the 88th minute, Chelsea created a chance that would bring the game to a tied score. It would be at the 89th minute where the VAR would jump in and make things controversial, ruling the goal OFFSIDE.

People went absolutely bonkers and even ex-players took to Twitter expressing their anger over the ridiculous ruling that in most cases, would’ve been ruled a goal. One of the best ones to comment on the matter was ex-New England Revolution and legend himself, Taylor Twellman.

All in all, a phenomenal game all together. If you missed it, well have fun catching up the highlights!

Congratulations Leicester City on your title!!!
