Sleeper Picks for the British Open

The British Open will kick off this weekend and what better way to celebrate than some good ol fashioned gambling.

I often find myself betting on golf every time there is Major tournament being played. I find nothing more soothing than a Sunday on the couch listening to the calming voices of Ser Nick Faldo and Jim Nantz.

Better yet, I find myself sweating my ass off watching the final few holes because one of the guys I bet on is in the mix coming down the stretch.

There is no better feeling than hitting an outright in a golf tournament. They have the juiciest odds in all of sports (along with my personal favorite, 1st touchdown bets).

Previously, Diego has discussed his sleeper picks for the US Open.

The fourth and final Major PGA tournament of the year is set to begin tomorrow morning at Royal St George’s.

Let’s take a look at some of the long shots and their odds on Draftkings to win:

Mackenzie Hughes (+30000)

Hughes is one of my favorite bets and it also happens to be the longest odds out of my 3 sleepers.

The Canadian was in contention at the US open and recently finished T14 at the Rocket Mortgage Classic in Detroit 2 weeks ago.

Hughes is a phenomenal putter and has the mentality to keep up with the leaders if he finds himself among them on Sunday. I think this course will suit him well.

Richard Bland (+18000)

Richard Bland is one of the more common sleepers being talked about for the Open. The 48 year-old Englishman has been on fire lately.

Recently, Bland has finished 15th, 4th, 50th, 3rd, and 1st in his last 5 tournament starts. This is one of the hottest streaks as of late by a professional golfer.

Bland was leading the US Open after 2 rounds and ultimately collapsed and finished 50th at Torrey Pines. I don’t see that happening here.

Bland is excellent on links courses and really knows how to maneuver around them. That combined with his recent hot streak could result in a victory in England.

Tommy Fleetwood (+4000)

Tommy Fleetwood is one of my favorite golfers, and I bet on him basically every Major.

His luscious flow coming out of the back of his hat, his swagger walking down the course in his old school Nike gear- it’s hard not to like.

Fleetwood finished as the runner-up in the last Open that took place in Northern Ireland in 2019. He looks poised to follow up on his previous Open performance and make another splash for the 2nd straight year.

Who Will Take It Home?

When it comes to a Major tournament. Anyone can win. As you can see, I usually go with a non-American. In the last 10 British Opens, only 3 Americans have won. So with those odds, you are better off betting on a non-American in this one.
