Simone Biles: The Ultimate Teammate and Leader!

All eyes for those of us who loves sports are currently in the Tokyo Olympic games as they take place.

Speaking of the Olympics, I am here to shine a light on someone who truly deserves it. I’m here to talk about how Simone Biles is the ultimate teammate for Team USA Gymnastics in these Olympic games.

Simone Biles’ Experience

Remember back in 2019 when Simone Biles became the first woman in history to hit a triple-double?

Speed forward to this date, Simone now has won seven national all-around titles and for these Olympic games, she’s the clear choice to represent us after winning the Olympic Trials.

In addition to her record, in the 2016 Rio Olympics, she won four gold medals and one bronze. Simone has literally never lost an all-around competition since 2013. Even after taking a break, which was after her performance in 2016, she returned to the stage with some routines that brim with incredible levels of difficulty.

Simone’s experience makes her the ultimate teammate as she leads newcomers to the Olympic stage for gold. Those newcomers are Jordan Chiles, Sunisa Lee and Grace McCallum.

Biles’ Leadership is The Ultimate Example!

While we all know how good Simone Biles is and the talent she possesses, we also need to understand she is also human!

In this mornings’ news, we found that Simone withdrew from the women’s team gymnastics final today citing mental health concerns. Here is where personally, I feel Simone Biles is the ultimate teammate. Allow me to explain.

First and foremost, I urge everyone reading this to understand that mental health is nothing to joke at. Secondly, equally important to understand the type of pressure these athletes are under and performing with.

Now onto my explanation. We know just how incredibly competitive and driven Simone Biles is, and with that in mind, imagine just how difficult this decision was to be made. Imagine being the most competitive and fierce athlete in this team and having to take a step back due to having to fight your own body and mind.

Imagine also having to make a game-time decision that you don’t want to do but have to! If anything, I think we can all agree with how remarkable it is for Biles to prioritize her own mental health above an Olympic medal. I don’t know if any of you listened/watched her interview but watching her explain the events this morning with the team while she made that decision, all in itself just really shows you how strong of an example of leadership she is.

Outside of having to make this decision, Simone still managed to find whatever it took to ensure she would cheer on her teammates. Watching her be loud out there and fully show support for them was truly inspiring.

Hope to see Simone back in her singles competitions but just glad she’s taking care of her mental health first!
