In what is probably a first for college football, the 2018 SERVPRO First Responder’s Bowl has been canceled due to lightning. Never in a million years did anyone ever think that a bowl game would be canceled, yet here we are.
25th ranked Boise State and Boston College were supposed to play against eachother at the Cotton Bowl in Dallas, TX. There were some overcast skies at kickoff but nothing looked too serious.
Boston College jumped out to a quick 7-0 lead thanks to an A.J. Dillon 19 yard touchdown run. And that would be the only scoring. With 5:08 left in the first quarter lightning was spotted and caused a near 80 minute delay. At that time, officials decided to call off the game.
This game will officially be ruled a “no contest” and in terms of betting, it’ll be considered a “push”.
Ironically, this isn’t the only time this year that BC athletics haven’t played a game in Texas. Earlier in the month, Texas A&M and Boston College had to cancel their basketball game due to weather. And that scenario turned into a fiasco in and of itself. So bad that a lawsuit may be filed by Texas A&M against BC for breach of contract.
Boston College will finish it’s season officially at 7-5. The last time BC had more than 7 wins in a season was back in 2009. Boise State will finish it’s season at 10-3.
