Rest in Peace Jerry Remy
I don’t even know where to begin with this blog. It just doesn’t seem real. But unfortunately it is very much real. Red Sox broadcasting legend Jerry Remy passed away Sunday morning after battling lung cancer since 2008. This is a crushing blow to Red Sox nation. But let’s try to commemorate the life of Jerry Remy and appreciate everything he did for Red Sox nation.
Jerry Remy as a Red Sox Player
Jerry Remy spent seven seasons with the Red Sox organization as a player from 1978-1984. Remy made his only All-star appearance with the Red Sox in his first season in 1978. The Red Sox second baseman hit .278 with two homers and 44 RBI’s. As a whole, Remy hit .286 with the Red Sox with two homers and 211 RBI’s. For a kid from Somerset MA, not too bad to spend seven years with the hometown team!
Jerry Remy as a Broadcaster
Jerry Remy the broadcaster has the much more illustrious career than Remy the major leaguer. There are so many moments to look back on in Remy’s broadcasting career. “Here comes the pizza!” is always a classic. “This used to be a family show!” is another all-time moment. And of course, who can forget about Remy and his ultimate fail at playing the air guitar? So many legendary calls from the “Rem Dawg” that will forever live on in Red Sox nation.
In Conclusion
We’re going to miss Jerry Remy here in Red Sox nation. Games on NESN without him will just never be the same. This is somebody I’ve known on NESN for Red Sox games since I was five years old. I’m now 28 years old! Put that into perspective. This is a HUGE loss for Red Sox nation. But thank you Jerry Remy for everything. You forever will have a place in Red Sox history for generations to come. Cancer stinks man!
