Red Sox Target: Kike Hernandez
Look, the Red Sox need a second baseman. That’s simple. I hate to say it, but Dustin Pedroia has probably played his last game as a Red Sox already. He just can’t get healthy. So I think it’s time to move on and go in a different direction. The Red Sox need to start making a few signings if they want to be taken serious in the American League in 2021. One name that has surfaced around lately had been Dodgers utility man Kike Hernandez.
Sources: Red Sox have strong interest in Kiké Hernandez. Utility man has spent last six years with Dodgers.
Hernandez played for Puerto Rico in the 2017 World Baseball Classic. Alex Cora was the GM for that team.

So should the Red Sox take a chance on the utility man out of Los Angeles? Let’s take a look at a few things with Hernandez.
The Prior Relationship with Alex Cora
People underrate relationships in professional sports. Hernandez played for the 2017 Puerto Rican World Baseball Classic squad that had Alex Cora as the GM. Cora has seen what Kike Hernandez can do on a personal level. The two have gone against each other in a World Series setting. Could it lead to a reunion in Boston? That remains to be seen.
The Questionable Batting Averages
He has been with the Dodgers since 2015. In that time, when Hernandez has played in 100 games or more, he hasn’t hit higher than .256. That’s a little bit of a concern. So would it be that Hernandez is brought in for his defensive abilities? That must be the case because his bat is very lackluster.
A Clubhouse Guy
Kiké Hernandez is one of the most electric players in baseball and that’s not up for discussion. pic.twitter.com/4iNfRLvQVn

Hernandez apparently is a great clubhouse presence. Look at how much fun he is having after a homerun in the playoffs. He’s talked about very highly by a lot of teammates. Maybe this guy would fit right in with the Red Sox.
His World Series Clutch Gene!

Just kidding, I just wanted an excuse to put this GIF in to relive 2018 for a second.
In Conclusion
Could this be a low risk, high reward signing? Sure! Bring in a veteran guy to fill in the 2nd base position. because once again Red Sox fans, Dustin Pedroia is not walking through that door like he was back in 2007 or even 2013. Let’s make a splash or two, huh Red Sox?
