Red Sox Legend and World Series MVP Steve Pearce Announces Retirement

Remember the 2018 World Series champion Boston Red Sox? That was sick, right? There were a lot of good players on their team. Mookie Betts had his MVP season. J.D. Martinez was a monster in his first season with the Red Sox. But the biggest surprise of all was the run that Steve Pearce had in the World Series. We’ll always love Steve Pearce for what he did in that short time period. Now, Pearce is riding off into the sunset of retirement.

With Pearce calling it a career, let’s take a look back at a few of his best moments in a Red sox uniform.

The May 23rd Game @ Toronto

This wasn’t necessarily the biggest game of the season. But it was a game against one of Pearce’s old teams. Boy, did he make them pay! A 3-5 night with a homerun is a good statement to make against a former team. This was one of those games where you felt Pearce was a “diamond in the rough” type of signing. Sure enough, we all didn’t realize how valuable he’d become until the playoffs started.

The Three Home Run Game Against the Yankees

I mean, this guy was just hitting balls into outer space! Pearce had one of the best games of his career on that August 2nd night. The first baseman belted three homeruns to help the Red Sox pound the Yankees 15-7. He became only the third Red Sox player to hit three homeruns in a game against the Yankees ever (according to Ian Browne at MLB.com), so that was pretty sweet. The Red Sox were so good that year. It seemed like the Yankees would always be on the losing end of a Red Sox rout. This was one of those games when you knew something special was going on with this particular team. What a game Pearce and the team had it this one!

The 2018 World Series MVP Run

The tape speaks for itself. What a series Pearce had against the Dodgers! I mean, they literally could not get this guy out when it mattered the most. He was 4-12 with a big double and three homeruns. The man carried the Red Sox in that series, especially out in Los Angeles. If you’re tired of me talking about it, then watch it for yourselves.

In Conclusion

Steve Pearce put in his time in the MLB. He found a good fit with the Red Sox and took advantage of it. In the playoffs of 2018, Pearce hit .289 with two doubles, four homeruns, and 11 RBI’s. Safe to say, Pearce took advantage of his opportunity. The man is now retired and we’ll never thank him enough for the run he had during the 2018 World Series. It’s safe to say that Pearce will always be a folk hero in Boston. Enjoy the retirement life, Steve. You’ve earned it!
