I am writing this as I am watching the “postgame show” for the live PlayStation 5 event that just finished up on YouTube. Coming November 2021 with select launch titles, the PlayStation 5 will hit the shelves just in time for holiday season next year. There are two models coming out with two different price points. The console that comes with the disc drive is priced at $499 while the digital only console will be priced at $399.
I have been a PlayStation guy for as long as I can remember. Some of the first video games I remember either playing or watching were Crash Team Racers and Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone on the original PlayStation. I have been a proud owner of each generation of PlayStation and the tradition will probably continue.
Games to look forward to
There are a ton of games to look forward to at launch. First, Marvel’s Spider-Man as Miles Morales will be a part of launch and appear on the PS4 this December. Do not look for this to be the sequel to Marvel’s Spider-Man but rather and shorter spin-off. Think of it what Uncharted: Lost Legacy was to the main Nathan Drake series. None the less, Miles Morales is going to make an excellent Spider-Man and may play a role alongside Peter Parker in the eventual sequel.
In addition to to Spider-Man, Horizon Forbidden West, the sequel to Horizon Zero Dawn. If you are unfamiliar with Horizon’s universe, humanity is pretty much all extinct and robot dinosaurs roam the planet. The game scored a 9/10 on GameSpot. In the sequel, will seem to rely more water traversal and will be set in a brand new setting.
Amongst others but maybe most importantly, the sequel to the most recent God of War was teased. We did not see much, but look for more information to be released soon. It will be a launch title so that leaves us with about a year to see trailers and other info. God of War won game of the year in 2018 and was one of the highest rated games of all time. The sequel has a lot of pressure to live up to the first game, but I don’t foresee any issues with that.
Ultimately, I loved the event. There are a ton of games to be excited about and many more that we haven’t seen yet. Noticeably absent was NaughtyDog. There is no information about what the studio is in the process of. After the release of The Last of Us Part 2, they have been very quiet. I was expecting them to be a part of the launch for the PS5. Unfortunately, it seems we need to wait longer than hoped for. PlayStation is far superior to Xbox and look for that to continue into the next generation of gaming.
