Premier League Weekend Games: The Sneaky, Best and The Snoozers!

Week two of the Premier League is upon us and with that in mind, its time for some premier league weekend predictions.

In this weeks’ blog, I will highlight the best matches to watch, the sneaky good ones, and of course the snoozer matches that I don’t think will get much attention.

Sneaky Good Matches – Week 2

Aston Villa vs. Newcastle

Saturday’s game will be the first time a full capacity crowd has been allowed at Villa Park since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Villa for the first time in years, will be at home without their main man, Jack Grealish who transferred over to Manchester City in the summer transfer window.

For Villa, Dean Smith made it clear they will be without their man, Ollie Watkins who has not been able to heal as quickly from his injury. Danny Ings is also expected to be out.

Newcastle is dealing with a series of players who are yet to be vaccinated. Expect these two teams to try something completely new in their style of play.

My prediction is Villa Victory thanks to the home crowd support. 2-1 score.

Crystal Palace vs. Brentford

It would be the first time these two teams have met each other since January of 1964!

Palace is coming to this match with the hopes to have a better outing. Unfortunately for them, they kicked off their season against a very powerful Chelsea who showed no mercy.

On the other hand, you have a Brentford team who showed what they are capable of and made their statement clear to the league. With this game being at Selhurst Park, and being a full crowd expectancy for Crystal Palace. I have to give this one to Crystal Palace. Score prediction: 2-1 Crystal Palace. Zaha will have a game!

Liverpool vs. Burnley

I am excited for this match!

Liverpool got their 68-game winning streak snapped by Burnley at home last season. Will we see a Liverpool re-energized and ready to show their talent class? Will we see Virgil make an impact in this game? How will Fabinho’s absence for this game affect Liverpool’s attacking mindset.

I’ve said this before and will say it again, if there is one annoying team to stop momentum for top 6 teams is Burnley. However, Liverpool looks re-energized! The front three attack they displayed last week against Norwich City with Jota, Sane and Salah looked to be firing off on all cylinders. Based on the attack I saw from Liverpool last week, I am going with a Liverpool victory. 3-1 Liverpool.

United vs. Southampton

For some odd reason, this feels like it could be a sneaky good game.

The last time these two met, United abused Southampton by delivering a 9-0 victory on the saints. Additionally, the last time these two met at St. Mary’s stadium, United came back from a 2-0 deficit to make it 3-2 thanks to Edinson Cavani. Personally, I expect Ralph Hassenhutl to be as challenging as ever against this United time that has been pestering him for a bit. Seeing that this time it will be at Southampton’s home stadium, I am expecting a 4-2 Victory from United. United’s lethality against Leeds last weekend is a warning that they are here to compete big time this year.

BEST MATCHES!

Arsenal vs. Chelsea

What a battle between the two London-based franchises. Chelsea once again has stacked up their already tremendously talented lineup and we are expecting to see the epic comeback of Romelu Lukaku to the Blues organization.

On the other hand, Arsenal is back with vengeance this weekend after a lackluster performance last week against Brentford. Unfortunately, history has it where almost every time that a clash of this magnitude happens, the score tells a different story than that expected. However, even though I feel this could be a 1-1 performance, I am taking a risk here. Arsenal wins 2-1. The only reason I am saying this is based on the fact that Arteta had their number twice last season.

West Ham vs. Leicester City

Another excellent clash! While it is being played Monday, this is a great match to watch.

West Ham come of from a impressive victory over Newcastle that the reminded the league to not underestimate this team. A 4-2 victory over a Newcastle team that showed a lot of physicality and grit was something this team led by Moyes needed to make a statement early. However, the Foxes are also coming off of a victory and while not as impressive as West Ham’s, it is something to not overlook though.

Schmeichel was a great presence for Leicester last week against Wolves especially as he was needed often. Vardy ensured to take care of his business and he scored the lone goal of the match. However, my concern here is Leicester’s defense handling a very tough, speedy and physical attack from West Ham. Therefore, I am predicting a 3-1 victory for West Ham. There is only so much Schmeichel will be able to do and the defensive issues for Leicester will be a warning of improvements needed ASAP for Brendan Rodgers.

Leeds United vs. Everton

I’m very happy for Rafa Benitez and Everton to had been able to start their season in the right foot. Meanwhile, we all know the smacking that United laid down on Leeds and if there is something that Marcelo Bielsa is lethal with, is coming back in a big way.

For me, this match is my personal favorite for the weekend. Everton will be looking to take care of business and continue to work up the table. Surely, the connection of Townsend and Calvert-Lewin will be a deep threat for Leeds. However, one thing that worries me for Everton is Leeds’s tempo and their “Never backdown” mentality. For this Premier League Weekend, this match might actually be the thriller and where we could expect a 3-2 score. I am riding with Everton to win this one, however will not be surprised if this is something that Bielsa also manages to pull off.

Wolves vs. Tottenham

The Premier League Weekend and this type of match will require many to bring their inhalers due to the action!

The return of Nuno Espirito Santo to Molineux Stadium will probably be one of the most emotional things you’ll watch this weekend. After Espirito Santo’s 4-magical years spell at Wolves, the man has moved on to Tottenham and has done so in a superb manner. Just this past weekend, Nuno showed the world that Tottenham can battle even without their main man, Harry Kane. We saw the return of key players to the starting lineup like Alli and Lucas Moura.

Wolves on the other hand are back in front of their home crowd and also have their main man, Raul Jimenez back! Jimenez was one of Espirito Santo’s favorite player and the two had a tremendous relationship. How emotional will this game be for the two? Very! However, given the history between the two, I expect Tottenham to win this one. 2-1 Score. Kane chooses NOT to play and his transfer saga continues.

Premier League Snoozers!

Every Premier League weekend features at least 1 game that is guaranteed to be a snoozer. There is one that I am sure you can all agree with, then there’s another one that for me its a snoozer simply because a victory is fully expected.

Manchester City vs. Norwich City

Personally, for me this match is already dead. Norwich already got handled by Liverpool and they are expected to get handled by City.

There is no easy way to say this. However, when City is bringing their talent like Grealish, DeBruyne and Raheem Sterling, how is Norwich City going to be able to stop that attack? Additionally, Pep should be ticked off after losing to Tottenham! Truly, sorry Norwich and sorry City fans, but this is just a dead giveaway. Manchester City wins this one, 4-0.

Brighton vs. Watford

Here’s the easy snoozer for this weekend.

Brighton last weekend luckily got away with a win on Burley. While some turmoil showed up in this match already thanks to VAR system, Brighton pulled off the win. However, Watford also pulled off a win and against a VERY GOOD Aston Villa. Seeing how leveled these two teams are, I am not expecting fireworks. I hope I’m wrong, but just see this match ending 1-1.

Closing Remarks.

Thank you for checking out these predictions! Hope you enjoy the action offered in this upcoming Premier League Weekend.
