It’s been quite the week for quarterbacks in the NFL. On Wednesday, the Denver Broncos announced that Teddy Bridgewater will be the starting quarterback. It’s wasn’t just Bridgewater winning a start job on Wednesday. Trevor Lawrence, the overall number one pick in this year’s draft was officially named the starting quarterback of the Jacksonville Jaguars. So that’s two battles officially over with just a few left. It’s that time again. It’s time to play everyone’s favorite game: predicting the remaining quarterback battles in the NFL.
New England Patriots: Cam Newton vs Mac Jones
Alright let’s just get this out of the way. BOTH yes both quarterbacks have looked good this preseason and training camp. Yes, Newton was out for few days but he returned to practice on Thursday and looked good. But, one quarterback is more ready than the other. Cam Newton will be the starting quarterback for the New England Patriots. This should be no surprise. But, because there’s such an obvious hatred towards Cam, Patriots fans are going to complain about this until they get what they want. Anyways, why is Cam going to be the starter? He knows the system, has actual NFL experience, and hasn’t struggled with the starters unlike Mac (until Wednesday where he had his best day). So yes, the starting job belongs to Cam Newton.
San Francisco 49ers: Jimmy Garoppolo vs Trey Lance
This battle should be over by now but it’s not. There’s a clear cut winner between these two. It’s Jimmy Garoppolo. Trey Lance has looked good this preseason and camp, but not good enough to be named the starting quarterback. Jimmy G on the other hand knows the 49ers system, and when healthy has proven he’s the guy. Afterall, San Francisco is just two seasons removed from being in the Super Bowl (and were 12 minutes away from winning). Jimmy G gives the 49ers a better chance to win than Trey Lance… for now.
New Orleans Saints: Taysom Hill vs Jameis Winston
After the second preseason game it’s over. Jameis Winston should be the starting quarterback of the New Orleans Saints. It’s crazy to think that considering Winston is the president and founder of the 30/30 club. If the Saints are smart this should have been their plan from the start. Why Winston over Hill? Taysom Hill is a utility player who can play multiple positions. If they plug him at quarterback they lose a weapon who can make a block or make a crucial third down catch. With Winston at quarterback (and proper coaching now) the Saints don’t lose the dynamic playmaker Hill can be.
