Possible Future For Kawhi Leonard With The Celtics

Alright enough speculating about LeBron. Let’s dive into the Celtics trading for Kawhi Leonard. In the next few weeks, Kawhi will sit down with management and Pop and talk about his future with the Spurs. If the Spurs front office gets any notation that Kawhi will not sign with the Spurs in the Summer of 2019, then they should think about trading him.

Now as a Celtics fan, I would love to have Kawhi Leonard. He fits the system and he is just another superstar player to push the Celtics into the Finals. It all depends on what the Celtics would have to give up and how desperate the Spurs are.

First of all, you have to realize that Leonard could possibly only be a rental player. His contract is up after next season. Knowing this, the Celtics have to be smart about which players they will trade. Obviously, the Celtics will have to give up the 2019 Sacramento draft pick. Next, the Celtics would probably offer up Jaylen Brown. These two things may be enough to get Leonard this Summer. Like I said, the Spurs would have to be really desperate to do this.

The Celtics also have Kyrie Irving to offer the Spurs. As of recent news, Kyrie is uncertain about his future in Boston. We have seen Ainge make crazy trades before, so don’t be surprised by anything that happens this Summer. Will Leonard be in a Celtics uniform by the beginning of next season? I say there is a 15% chance of that, so don’t get your hopes too high. If anything, I think he will stay in a Spurs uniform and end up signing a max contract with them.
