Pittsburgh Looking for Back to Back Stanley Cups

The Pittsburgh Penguins are looking to repeat as Stanley Cup Champions the last team to do that was the Red Wings 19 years ago. The last time the Penguins did it was in 1991–1992 that team was led by Mario Lemieux and Sidney Crosby is hoping to equal his fellow Pittsburg great. Achieving this is in today’s NHL is no easy task and the Penguins have had to battle the whole way to the finals.

They are certainly in for a series with the Predators too although the penguins took the first game in the series 5–3 they were heavily outshot and outplayed. The high-powered Penguins were held to just 18 shots and only 1 shot in the second period. You can’t win a series that way and it was shocking they won that game. Thanks to Jake Guentzal who has been a lightning rod for them in the playoffs scoring his 10th goal and 4th game winner of the playoffs they edged the Predators in game one.

Pittsburgh will continue to look to their big guns for production in game two Crosby had two assists last game and Malkin blasted a power play goal for the Penguins. Their great one, two punch down the middle certainly outmatches Nashville’s especially with Ryan Johansen being out for the series. Pittsburgh should still be planning on getting help from their youth as their youngsters have been lighting the lamp for them.

This series will be a battle between teams and home ice advantage will be a key factor. The Penguins home ice record sits at 5–2 during the playoffs and Nashville’s is 7–1 and looked dominant in their own rink.
