Peter Cehlarik is Ready to Move on From Boston
Peter Cehlarik has been back home in Slovakia since the NHL season was put on hiatus. Cehlarik spoke to the media over the weekend. According to Ty Anderson of 98.5 The Sports Hub, Cehlarik indicated that he was frustrated by not having a permanent spot on the Boston roster. I only speak English, so I had Google chrome translate the webpage for me. The headline read, “Cehlarik expects a change, also looking at clubs in Sweden.” Elite Prospects has updated their website to include the rumored transaction between the Providence Bruins and the Swedish Hockey League.
I can understand Cehlarik’s frustration, he will be 25 in August and has primarily played in the AHL. Every time he has gotten called up to the NHL, Cehlarik only remains on the roster for a handful of games before being sent back down to Providence. Cehlarik’s production with the Baby B’s should be enough to give him a proper chance with the Boston club. In his 48 games with the Providence team, Cehlarik was credited with 37 points, 16 goals and 21 assists. However, he feels that during his time in Boston, coach Bruce Cassidy would wait for Cehlarik to make a mistake and have an excuse to send him back down to Providence. A similar feat happened with Anders Bjork, who had spent the ’17-’18 and ’18-’19 seasons bouncing between Boston and Providence before finally finding his grove with the Boston club for most of this season.
Chelarik’s Time in Boston
Cehlarik was drafted by the Bruins in 2013. He’s had ice time in just 40 NHL games between 2016 and 2020. Scoring 5 goals and 6 assists during his time with the Boston team. His time with Boston’s AHL affiliate is much different. Cehlarik has 59 goals and 77 assists in his 185 games in Providence. He made 33% of his shootout chances in the ’19-’20 season. This could be an important part of the game to fill that the Boston club is missing.
Where Will Cehlarik Go?
Cehlarik is set to become a free agent on July 1. It is very likely that he has seen his last days as a Bruin. His success in the AHL may not translate well in Boston, but could still find success with organizations elsewhere.
