Are We Getting Closer to Seeing the Patriots Trading Up for Tua Tagovailoa?
The NFL draft is getting closer and closer. As New England Patriots fans, we’re in an interesting spot. We have the number 23 pick and there’s even rumors of teams willing to trade higher picks. As I scrolled through Twitter, I came across this interesting tidbit from WEEI.

I know this doesn’t mean much of anything. But, it’s not the worst piece of information to come out. So could the Patriots be closer and closer to trading for Tua? Here’s a few factors that come into play.
Tua’s Hip
If Tua doesn’t get hurt, he’s a top three pick. There’s no doubt about it. But now, people are questioning Tua’s durability in the NFL. He’s only 6 feet tall. That’s not necessarily the biggest for the quarterback position. The injury in itself was brutal and Tua had a lot of work to do to get back into playing shape. Teams might not want to take a chance on injured goods.
The Rumors Between the Lions and the Pats
Breaking: according to a source, the Patriots and Lions are close to a deal that will include the Patriots receiving the #3 overall pick in the 2020 NFL Draft.

I don’t buy this for one second. But what I do buy is that the Patriots and Lions have had discussions. We know the Pats and Lions are very friendly with one another. There’s a lot of former Patriots in that Lions organization. Whose to say the Patriots won’t maneuver their way to the third overall pick? They need to make a splash in this year’s draft, especially with Tom Brady in Tampa Bay now. The rumors are swirling, so why not make them into a reality?
The Belichick-Saban Connection
We know how close Bill Belichick and Nick Saban were back in the day. Maybe, Saban has nothing but great things to say about Tua to Belichick. Wouldn’t Bill trust Saban in this situation? After all, these are two of the best football coaches in their respective levels. I’m not saying it’ll help immensely. But I’m not saying that it hurts to have that connection either.
In Conclusion
I still don’t see Tua as a Patriot. It’s a pipe dream at this point. However, anything can happen the week of the draft. We would all love to see Tua as a Patriot. Could Bill make it happen if he really wanted to? Probably. We’ll just have to wait and see. The only tough part is that Tua looks the part in a Patriots jersey. Get me to Thursday night!
