Patriots vs. Jets Preview
The Patriots find themselves 0-4 at home this season, and hosting the Jets this week. If there was any great chance to get their first home win, its this week. The Jets are still the Jets, and Bill Belichick knows exactly what to do against rookie QBs. Making this Patriots vs. Jets game a lot more favorable for New England.
If they play the way they did against Tampa and Dallas they will absolutely run away with this game. If they play like they did against the Texans, it could be another story.
Mac Jones showed the absolute ice in his veins last week. He threw a pick 6, shook it off and threw a 75 yard TD to Kendrick Bourne to take the lead. Hopefully against the Jets he shouldn’t have to make a clutch play, but with the throws he’s been making he should pick this defense apart. Jakobi Meyers has had his best games of his career against the Jets, and should be an absolute receptions machine this Sunday. The tight ends should both be heavily involved in the red zone, and Hunter Henry seems to have built some chemistry with Mac Jones over the past few weeks, and that is going to be huge for this season. Maybe we finally get to see Nelson Agholor’s big play ability against a weak secondary.
The running game will help supplement what has been a strong passing attack lately. Damien Harris woke back up, eclipsing 100 yards for the second time this season. He ran the ball strong and they took care of the football. Mistakes and turnovers in the simplest part of the game has been one of their biggest issues this season. If they can minimize the mistakes and beat down on this defense, they should be able to eat clock and keep Zach Wilson’s big arm off the field.
The defense should have it made this week. Zach Wilson was seeing Sam Darnold’s ghosts last time and threw 4 interceptions last time these teams met. Mixing up coverages and bringing pressure will keep Wilson guessing and force him to make these mistakes again. The guy that they have to stop this week is Michael Carter. Carter is a rookie RB with a lot of talent, and he could cause some problems if he is given the chance. That will also open up Wilson’s chance to beat the coverage deep, which is something the Pats will want to avoid.
Pats need a statement win this week. It may be the Jets, but they need to show dominance somehow. Pats 34-13.
