Patriots-Cowboys Preview

The Pats narrowly escaped from Houston with a win last week with a good old last second Nick Folk field goal. It was a game filled with a lot of mistakes that they were able to overcome. That won’t be a sustainable way to win in this league, especially against a hot team like the Cowboys.

The Tight Ends

How the Patriots offense will find success against the Cowboys - Pats Pulpit

The offense was alright at best. They were good enough to win the game, but they looked nothing like the team that came to play against Tampa the previous week. Mac Jones did what he had to do to get the team in scoring position. They really need to figure out the red zone offense going forward though. Throwing to the tight ends they decided to pay a lot of money to seems to work well. For some reason they just don’t decide to do it often enough. They don’t have any receivers that are red zone threats, so the tight ends HAVE to get it done. Bourne and Jakobi are great chain movers, and we’re still waiting on Nelson Agholor to showcase his big play ability. These receivers are going to have a hard time against Trevon Diggs, so the tight ends will be the key to the passing game this week.

The Running Game

The running game is going to look completely different going forward. James White we know is out, and Damien Harris will most likely be out as well. Brandon Bolden seems to be the only guy that can hold onto the ball consistently. The other guys are going to have to step up, which means Rhamondre Stevenson showcasing what he did in the preseason. JJ Taylor is going to have to fill the James White role as the receiver out of the backfield. Bolden has been their best pass protection back, but that is a spot they really miss James White in.

The Cowboys Offense

Cowboys vs Patriots Odds, Picks and Predictions - Dallas Rumbles Through New England

The Cowboys have a whole arsenal of weapons to throw at any defense. If the Pats play like last week they will get eaten alive. JC Jackson will need to lock down Amari Cooper, and last week he couldn’t handle former special teamer Chris Moore. They also need someone to step up and handle the big play threat in Ceedee Lamb, and you can’t sleep on Dalton Schultz and Blake Jarwin at the tight end position.

Dak has been a top 5 QB this year, and he can hurt a defense in so many ways. He picks apart secondaries, and he’s starting to get confident in his legs again too. The Cowboys also have a mean two headed monster in Zeke and Tony Pollard. Pollard has been electric in spelling Zeke this season and can really eat up chunks of yards at a time. They are going to be a tough duo to stop with how poorly the linebackers have played this season.

Final Thoughts

Overall, this Cowboys team out matches the Patriots skill wise, there is no doubt about it. However the Patriots have a coaching advantage. If they can hang in this game long enough to wait for Mike McCarthy to make a dumb mistake, they have a chance of sneaking one out this week. 27-24 Pats.
