Manchester United fans are dealing with heavy days ahead of them as the #OleOut situation continues.
Truthfully, this is a chapter that is just beginning as the problems for United are much deeper than they seem. Allow me to break it down for you from a United fan’s standpoint.
Replacing Ole Isn’t as Easy As You Think!
Some would think that replacing a manager of the statute of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer would be easy. I challenge you all to think again though.
If you recall in club history, after Sir Alex Ferguson left the club, a rapid change of managers came behind it. You’re looking through characters like David Moyes, Louis Van Gaal, and the special one, Jose Mourinho.
When Ole came in as a caretaker of the club, the Norwegian came in giving the club a sense of hope. While Ole fulfilled his duties, he was surprisingly assigned with the coaching job. Fast forward now to this season though, and while all the aforementioned managers left their mark with the club, they managed to get trophies. For Ole, after five seasons, this is still an objective yet to be accomplished with a team that has gone desperate in signings.
Speaking of signings, this leads me to the next problem.
The Problem Gets Deeper Than Imagined.
Now as many monitor this #OleOut situation, one thing to consider is how deep the problem gets.
Yes, the rumors of getting after managers like Conte, Ten Haag, Pochettino and even Gareth Southgate are exciting. However, the problem is much deeper than just Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. For starters, here are three examples:
- Paul Pogba Contract Extension: Ok so say the Glazers replace Ole. What and how will they manage the Pogba situation as the club hopes for him to stay? What if management wise, that relationship turns for the worse?
- Donny Van De Beek: Major issue here! A player who has struggled to get any playing time under the manager who convinced to come to this club.
- Jesse Lingard: An under utilized talent who showed the world class he can offer when trusted. When loaned to West Ham he performed in an amazing manner, yet where does he fit in this club?
Add to this – The Captain Himself!
Aside of these three players, there are also concerns defensively and captainship wise. When a new manager comes in, normally there’s a change of captain as well. We can agree with the fact that simply, Harry Maguire is not cut out to be United’s captain and now even more so after his comments during a post match interview after the Liverpool loss. Take a look:
🗣 "I'm here because I have to be here"

So with this in mind, who then becomes the teams captain? Let’s not add to this, seeing someone on the bench like Eric Bailly there to just waste.
In Conclusion…
Truly for Manchester United fans, I believe that Solskjaer said it best. We have hit “rock bottom for sure. Currently, fans are tired of excuses and we know it at this point.
The problem is, not just so much who could replace Ole. The problem is ensuring the right decision is made at a time where long-term plans have to be part of the picture. If I was in the position that the Glazers are in, I would know the problem is deeper as there also players that need to go such as Fred, Martial, Maguire and Lindelof alongside of out-of-form David De Gea. Then, knowing and understanding what is the identity you want for this club moving forward as that is long lost at this point.
While I fully support the idea that is time for Ole to go, I too support that is in United’s best interest to protect his image. Ole gave it all he knows as a coach for now to a team that was in shambles after Mourinho left it. I’m thankful to Ole for leaving a club in much better shape than what it was. At least, there are pieces in this team where a future can be made around and hoped for.
