Oakland Radiers Trade Former First Round Pick Amari Cooper

Do you guys smell that? Jon Gruden actually did something good!

After starting the season off 1-5 following the Khalil Mack trade, it appears that the Oakland Raiders have entered full tank-mode, as they have now dealt former first-round WR Amari Cooper to the Dallas Cowboys in exchange for a first-round pick.

The second Jon Gruden era has not gotten off to a hot start by any means out in Oakland. When he traded away Khalil Mack for a bag of balls and some kicking tees, Raiders fans wanted his head delivered on a stake. The 1-5 start paired with his strange comments about needing a pass rusher (Khalil Mack) certainly didn’t help his case either. But Raiders fans, it’s time to rejoice. Maybe this guy isn’t such a bonehead after all.

Amari Cooper has been a bit of a let-down since being selected fourth overall in 2015. He hasn’t necessarily been bad as opposed to wildly inconsistent, which has been tough for Raiders fans to watch. Cooper may be a two-time Pro Bowler, but to get a first round pick for a guy who has only posted 22 receptions up to this point in what should be his break-out season is remarkable to me. Hats off to Jon Gruden. He did so much better in this Cooper deal than he did in the Khalil Mack trade. Bravo.

In what has been a lost season in the franchise’s potential last season out in Oakland, Raiders fans should feel comfortable knowing that their team currently holds three first round picks in next year’s NFL Draft.
