Now That the Super Bowl is Over, Let the Patriots Off-Season Stories Begin!

The Super Bowl is done. It’s on to the off-season now as the New England Patriots have a LOT to work on. They have the 4th highest salary cap space in the NFL. There’s also the mid first round pick they have coming up in the 2021 NFL draft. The point being that the Patriots are going to be in a ton of rumors this offseason. So with that in mind, let’s take a look at the biggest off-season stories to keep an eye on.

Who is the Starting QB in 2021?

This is arguably the biggest question of the off-season for the New England Patriots. There are some options here. Jimmy Garoppolo is a popular name that has come up in rumors. There are other names floating around like Derek Carr, Marcus Mariota and Sam Darnold. Don’t forget about the pipe dream of Deshaun Watson! And if all else fails, maybe the Patriots draft a QB or even bring back Cam Newton. I personally don’t think Newton comes back, but you never know at this stage. Whatever happens with the Patriots, it’s going to be the guessing game of all guessing games as to who is under center for the 2021 season.

Will the Patriots Sign Any Marque Wide Receivers?

This is another position that is lacking for the Patriots. Julian Edelman is getting older. N’Keal Harry has been a bust in his first two seasons. Jakobi Meyers is fine, but he’s not a number one receiver. There are a lot of good receivers out there on the free agency market. A few include Allen Robinson, Juju Smith-Schuster, Corey Davis, and Chris Godwin just to start. You have to get a playmaker at the receiver position. You have the money. No more of that excuse.

What Happens with the Tight End Position?

This could be a bit unfair because Dalton Keene and Devin Asiasi are only going into their second pro seasons. But the Patriots need a legit threat for a pass catching tight end. Hunter Henry is a name I would love as a low-risk, high-reward type of signing. There’s also Kyle Pitts out of Florida that the Patriots could try to acquire in the draft. The point is, you need another weapon that can actually catch and not just be a blocker in the running attack.

In Conclusion

There are some other questions that we could get into right now. Another good one is what happens to the COVID opt-outs? But that’s a whole different conversation. The Patriots offense is woeful at the current moment. With this off-season, there’s going to be a lot of stories and rumors flying around. Heres to hoping the Patriots actually make some big signings and get back in contention!
