Listen, I am a sucker for a great (or bad) third jersey in the NHL. When I was younger, I would often base what team to play as in a sports video game on their jersey selection. It did not matter what sport it was, whether it was NHL, 2K, Madden, or the Show, jerseys were very important to me as a game player. Almost any alternate that was orange or powder blue got an immediate boost. Today, we are going to take a look at some of my favorite NHL jerseys that should (or maybe should not?) make a comeback.
The Mighty Ducks Jersey
The Anaheim Ducks used to rock one of the best jerseys and team names in the league. Based on the hit Disney Movie, Mighty Ducks 3, the purple jersey and duck with the goalie mask was one of the best jerseys in the league. There was nothing wrong with it. The Mighty Ducks of Anaheim is such an amazing team name as well to go with it. However, the Ducks lost their mightiness after the 2005-2006 season and just became the Ducks. Along with the name, the classic jerseys went too. They have recently paid homage to their beginnings. They introduced a similarly designed orange third jersey that pays respects to the classic.
The New York Islanders Orange Jersey
Like I said in the intro, I am a sucker for orange. Despite hating the Islanders as a team, they had one of my favorite jerseys of all time with their orange alternates. As someone who is a Mets fan, any combination of orange and blue is going to look amazing. The Islanders had their disastrous “Fishstick” jerseys in the 90s, but reverted back to the classics in the late 90s. In 2002, they introduced this beauty and rocked it until 2007. Whenever I play the Islanders in NHL, I make them wear this one. They should definitely pull an Oilers move and have a third orange jersey.
Boston Bruins Yellow Bear Jersey
So I have no idea how this jersey is viewed here in Boston, but I think it is hilarious. It is so far fetched that I think it works. The bear face on the front is just so derpy. Even though I am not a Bruins fan, I would love to get my hands on a Ray Bourque or Joe Thornton one of these.
New York Rangers Lady Liberty
The New York Rangers jerseys have barely changed throughout their history. The diagonal lettering down is truly iconic and it is very hard to beat. However, there is one that reigns supreme. The Lady Liberty jerseys from the late 90s and early 2000s were some of my favorite jerseys of all time. Both the white and blue look so good. I would absolutely love it if they came out with an updated version or just rolled the old ones back out. The fans want to see it, so the team needs to make it happen.
