NFL Thursday Owners Meetings

The NFL told teams today that they can open with their training camps as scheduled on July 28th.  The commissioner also stated that during the owner’s meeting. they discussed the 2020 schedule. They were planning for how to deal with the COVID-19 pandemic. There was also talk about the newly implemented “Inspire Change” social justice programs.

Roger Goodell announced to reporters that the league’s main concern is to focus on getting ready “for games at our stadiums and to engage our fans both in stadiums and through our media partners.” The specific protocols for the teams were not released.

Voting and the NFL

The NFL also announced a new voting education and registration program. The new program will involve the NFLPA and the Player’s Coalition. It’ll help make sure that everyone is registered to vote, and actually goes out and votes. The NFL’s senior VP of social responsibility Anna Isaacson said regarding the new program, “Our goal is for everyone associated with the NFL to register to vote and vote and inspire others. We all have a shared right and obligation to go vote.” Voting is important, kids!

My Thoughts

When I got the push notification that the NFL was permitted to conduct training camp on time my face lit up with excitement. Then… it hit me. I won’t be able to attend for the first time in about 5 years thanks to the coronavirus! When I kept reading the article I became really excited about the new voting education initiative. I’ve been the psycho “you need to vote” friend since I turned 18, even before if we’re being realistic. I think it’s super important to urge everyone to be registered to vote and use their voices at their polling station.
