We will end the Saturday slate of Divisional round games with a very good one. This game has the potential to be the game of the weekend. We have an NFC showdown between the San Francisco 49ers and the Green Bay Packers. San Francisco is coming off of a great win against Dallas last week. Green Bay is coming off of the bye last week. This matchup is going to be a cold one which bodes well for one team. With that being said here is my preview for this NFC Divisional round showdown.
The San Francisco 49ers are ready to continue their run to the Super Bowl. This offense is going to have a less than 100 percent Jimmy Garoppolo start for them. They are going to have to figure out a way to attack this Green Bay defense with a less than 100 percent Garoppolo. Deebo Samuel was a big factor in their wild card win and he will be asked more of the same in this Divisional showdown. The Niners will need their big threat tight end George Kittle to be much more effective in this one. Kittle had one reception for 18 receiving yards against the Cowboys. San Fran is going to have to get him more involved this week.
Defensively, this defense could be without Fred Warner and Nick Bosa. Those are two big blows if those guys are out. San Francisco will need to be playing like they did in the first half of the wild card game. If they allow Aaron Rodgers to get cooking it will be a long night for the San Francisco defense. Look for the Niners to bring their A game against that bad bad man Aaron Rodgers.
The Green Bay Packers are back at the top of the NFC yet again. The NFC playoffs run through Lambeau field and Aaron Rodgers will look to continue his impressive season. Green Bay really needs to show up in this one. Last season in the NFC title game, they fell to the eventual Super Bowl champions. This looks like it will be Rodgers’ last playoff run in Green Bay. The Packers need to capitalize on this run, because they might not get another chance at this without Rodgers for a long time. They need to get the running game going early in this cold weather in order to get Rodgers and this passing attack going. This could be the last game for the Packers trio of Jones, Rodgers and Adams so you best believe that they will give all they got.
Defensively, the Packers give up 21.8 points per game and they rank 10th in passing yards and rushing yards allowed per game. They have a solid lockdown corner in Jaire Alexander. Alexander is going to have to be big time in containing Deebo Samuel. If the Packers want to win this game, they will have to contain the 49ers trio in their passing game. Green Bay is going to be buzzing at Lambeau field on Saturday night.
Green Bay is a 5.5 point favorite with the over/under set at 47. My lean here is the over, as I think both offense are going to put up points in this one. My official play in this divisional matchup is San Francisco +5.5. Love the Niners to cover and I think they have a real chance at winning this game. Rodgers is going to be Rodgers, but in the playoffs he is due for a bad performance. This might be the game for the bad performance. Ride the Niners with the points tonight.
