My Reactions to Patriots Selecting QB Mac Jones in the First Round of the NFL Draft
The NFL draft has come and gone. For weeks, we were all wondering what the Patriots were going to do, pertaining to the quarterback position. Would they trade up? Were they going to take Justin Fields? Would we see Mac Jones as a Patriot? Well, we now have our answer.
The New England Patriots selected Mac Jones, quarterback from the University of Alabama, with the 15th overall pick in the first round of the NFL draft.

So Mac Jones is now a New England Patriot. With this being official, here are a few thoughts and reactions.
Initial Reaction: WHY?!
I won’t lie to you all, I was visibly upset. Want to see how upset? Check out the CGS NFL Draft stream here and you’ll see my exact facial expressions and body language. It wasn’t pretty.
But then I thought about it more the next day at work. I think I was more upset that Justin Fields was probably one trade away from going to the Patriots. Justin Fields would’ve been cool in New England, don’t get me wrong. But now? I think Mac Jones was the right pick!
Reaction Now: Wow!
This was a fantastic pick by Bill Belichick. First of all, Mac Jones led the nation in accuracy, completing nearly 77% of his passes. Second, the Patriots didn’t have to trade anything to get Jones at 15. They stayed put and eventually got their guy. Third, he played under Nick Saban. Saban and Belichick have been friends for a number of years now. They even coached together in the NFL! You really think Saban would tell Belichick Mac was good if he really didn’t believe it? I don’t think so personally!
In Conclusion
I’m excited to see what Mac Jones can do in New England. He’s going from the best college coach in the country to arguably the best NFL head coach of all time. Of course, Cam Newton will be the starter in week one. He deserves that after everything he went through last year. But don’t be surprised if Mac is right behind Cam and ready to take over when the opportunity presents itself. It’s Mac Jones time in New England. Hopefully, he’s as advertised!
