MVP Buzz + Week 4 Power Rankings

Week three of the NFL season has been completed and it is finally time to talk about who is separating themselves from the pack for the MVP race. So far it has been a year of dominant offenses, especially the teams with franchise quarterbacks and head coaches who had some level of chemistry coming into this uncertain offseason. Lets get right to it with my top 5 list for the 2020 Most Valuable Player Award.

Russell Wilson

Russell Wilson has had nothing short of a spectacular career and past performance almost always predicts future results. Wilson already has thrown for 14 Touchdowns in just three games. He is currently on pace to throw for 74 Touchdowns. Move over Peyton Manning because your single season record for TD passes in a season is in some serious jeopardy as Lockett and Metcalf continue to rack up the receiving yards and TDs for the MVP favorite in Russell Wilson. I expect Wilson to light up the scoreboard in Miami this weekend and finish the season with 59 Passing Touchdowns.

Patrick Mahomes

Super Bowl Winner, check. Regular Season MVP, check. Yet, here this young man is with another passing clinic this past Monday Night against the Ravens. So much for that Lamar Jackson vs. Mahomes rivalry. Mahomes and the Chiefs are 3-0 on this young season and Patrick has nine Touchdowns and zero INT’s. Mahomes just has to stay healthy and he is a must have member of the 2020 MVP conversation. The Chiefs should improve to 4-0 after a solid challenge against Bill Belichick and Cam Newton this coming Sunday at Arrowhead Stadium.

Aaron Rodgers

The Packers have scored 43, 42, and 37 points in their three wins in 2020. This team is Super Bowl ready heading into week four. Rodgers looks as focused as ever after the Packers drafted a Quarterback in Jordan Love with their first round pick in 2020. I have the Packers as the second best team in the NFL (Power Rankings below). The Packers should cruise to a playoff berth with Rodgers playing like he is in his prime again.

Josh Allen

I got so much heat for having Allen as my longshot to win the MVP back in August and all I can do is say “how about now?” This dynamic offensive weapon is a physical freak able to extend plays and find his receivers down the field. Allen is currently leading the Bills to a 3-0 start to the 2020 campaign and I think they cruise past the Raiders this Sunday and improve to 4-0. The Bills will win the AFC East over the New England Patriots. Allen just has to stay healthy and if their defense continues to stay strong he has a real shot at the award and also a Super Bowl appearance.

Aaron Donald

Is there any chance a defensive player wins the award? No. However, do not let this Quarterback driven award put a shadow on just how great Donald is. This man is easily the most impactful player in the NFL outside of Wilson and Mahomes. The Rams almost completed a comeback on the Buffalo Bills of a 20+ point deficit and Donald was part of the reason for the momentum change. He does not always show up on the stat sheet but he is the front runner for the Defensive Player of the Year and may just find himself on the MVP Ballot come January 2021.
