Moving Tuukka Rask Would Be A Huge Mistake For the Boston Bruins
There have been some rumors going around that Tuukka Rask is on the trading block. This is the dumbest story I’ve seen this offseason, listen I know we’re deep into the offseason and stories need to be made but this one is bat shit crazy. Tuukka Rask is one of the best goalies in the league and the idea that the Bruins signed a 33-year-old goalie to replace him is ludicrous. Halak IS NOT Tuuk’s replacement he is his backup and that’s it.
Rask’s play often gets criticized meticulously and unfairly. Rask is a great goalie and he’s among the leagues best in every category each season. Hell he won a damn Vezina a few years ago. In the past five seasons Rask has been an absolute workhorse no goalie has played more games than him. He’s played in 311 contests and faired well with 172 wins. Among goalies who have played more than 100 games in the past five years Rask is tied for the third best GAA at 2.30. Oh and in case you were curious he’s also got the seventh best SV% in that span.
Tuukka has not been an issue for the Bruins but is always made out to be a terrible goalie by much of the B’s fan base. I almost put David Price and Rask in the same conversation both are solid players but people expect so much more of them. Rask is expected to win the Vezina every season and when he doesn’t people lose their minds. It’s ridiculous to even entertain the idea that Rask is on his way out the door, the window for the Bruins is open for a few more seasons while players like Bergeron and Krejci still have the best of their primes left so why the hell would they deal away one of the best goalies in the league?
Teams would kill for a number one goalie like Rask. Hell the Islanders have been looking for a number one goalie for about six years, good goaltending is hard to find and the Bruins have had the luxury of great goaltending for about a decade. There’s a reason Halak was a free agent and nobody locked him in for long term. Feel free to tell me goalies you’d rather have than Rask because there’s maybe about three better than him and that’s it.
