MNF: Patriots v.s. Jets

Now the Pats have really dug themselves into a hole we haven’t seen in years. if they’re going to find a way back on track, the Jets are the perfect team to do it against. There’s no way they can lose to the team that’s most likely going to be winless. This is probably the least overwhelming game the Patriots have had in at least 20 years, but if we’re in this for the long haul we have to watch it.

This is a big week to find out what we have in young and up and coming players in the offense. Damien Harris has proved he can be a workhorse in the backfield, both running and receiving. It would be fantastic if we could see what the rookie tight ends are capable of, but at the moment there are zero healthy players at the position. So this could be a big test of the receiver position. They brought in Isaiah Ford, who has been very solid in Miami when he is called upon. He can work out of the slot, but also has good size and length at 6’2″. This could begin the phase out of N’Keal Harry already if he fits in and Jakobi Meyers plays like he did last week. Julian Edelman seems on his way out with his injury history, so it’s time to find out what the future holds.

Defensively if they can’t find a way to hold this offense under 20 points even without Gilmore then there is going to some issues going forward. JC Jackson and Jonathan Jones are more than capable of holding down these receivers. This defense really needs to step up and stop the run, and this Jets team has struggled mightily to run the ball all season. They just need to keep Sam Darnold from getting outside of the pocket and creating plays with his feet. He’s more athletic than he is given credit for. If this secondary keeps him seeing ghosts again they should have no problem holding down this team.

There’s still a lot of football to be played this season, and the Pats can’t be counted out just yet. They still have the greatest coach ever, and with 7 teams making the playoffs in each division there is still an outside chance they can squeak in the wild card. Pats 27-10.
