MLB’s Best Plan To Play Again
Sports fans everywhere are itching to get back to their normal routine, which includes watching sports. For me, baseball is what I am dying for right now. With that said the MLB has been rumored to be talking about many different ways to get the MLB back playing. That has included playing games with no fans, having the player sit in the bleachers 6 feet apart, to playing the entire season in Arizona. I don’t entirely support any of these ideas. However, they came out with a report yesterday that I could be convinced to get behind.
The idea is by having the seasons take place in Florida and Arizona at their spring training facilities. Each team will be broken up into different divisions similar to how it is now. Instead of American and National League, it would be Grapefruit and Cactus League. The divisions would be as follows:
NORTH: New York Yankees, Philadelphia Phillies, Toronto Blue Jays, Detroit Tigers, Pittsburgh Pirates
SOUTH: Boston Red Sox, Minnesota Twins, Atlanta Braves, Tampa Bay Rays, Baltimore Orioles
EAST: Washington Nationals, Houston Astros, New York Mets, St. Louis Cardinals, Miami Marlins
NORTHEAST: Chicago Cubs, San Francisco Giants, Arizona Diamondbacks, Colorado Rockies, Oakland Athletics
WEST: Los Angeles Dodgers, Chicago White Sox, Cincinnati Reds, Cleveland Indians, Los Angeles Angels
NORTHWEST: Milwaukee Brewers, San Diego Padres, Seattle Mariners, Texas Rangers, Kansas City Royals
I like this idea simply for the fact of a change of pace. Don’t get me wrong, the Red Sox and Yankees rivalry is the greatest in sports, but it has been pretty dull the last couple years. Now imagine the Sox and Braves battling it out or the Nationals and Astros or seeing Mookie Betts and Trout face off head to head multiple times this year. It would have such a high entertainment factor for the whole year.
Now, of course, with all this being said, I do not agree that sports should be back before normal life continues. Millions of people are unable to continue to go to work daily because of the Coronavirus and bringing sports back before we as a country find a way to beat the big Rona. As much as I’d like to see this happen. I am not convinced it is safe or the right thing to do.
