Matt Patricia to the Giants?
Reports: Signs point to Matt Patricia as Giants coach https://t.co/JuLEEV8INJ

So last week, everyone was talking about how Patriots defensive coordinator Matt Patricia was in position to take the head coaching job for the Detroit Lions. But all of a sudden, that’s changed, as ProFootballTalk reports that “all signs” point to Patricia taking the HC job for the New York Giants.
If this is true, it makes way more sense to me that he’d end up there over Detroit. While there’s a mutual connection between Patricia and Detroit’s GM Bob Quinn (formerly with New England), the Giants job just feels more appealing, even after everything that happened this season.
The Giants are in rebuild mode. They have a ton of talent on defense that he could choose to either try building around in free agency and the draft or move on from entirely in attempts to gain other assets. Patricia would also have the #2 pick in this year’s draft. This would allow him to potentially build around a future franchise QB like Josh Rosen or Sam Darnold, and move on from Eli Manning.
Detroit already has stability with Matt Stafford and the majority of their defense so he would have to work around what’s already in place there. But the New York job would allow Patricia to build everything up his way from scratch. That sounds way more appealing to me. And if Bill Belichick is in his ear at all for guidance, I’m sure he would try steering him to New York.
If Patricia is to leave, my guess would be that linebackers coach Brian Flores replaces him, that is if he doesn’t leave as well. Flores had an interview with the Cardinals last week for their HC vacancy, so who knows what happens there. Patricia could also try to grab him for his staff wherever he ends up going. But like I said, if Flores is to stay, I’d guess he’s the next man up for DC.
