Marcus Peters vs. Sean Payton Finally Came Full Circle Yesterday

He isn’t my favorite player in the league by any stretch, but man, Marcus Peters is one crazy mofo.

Marcus Peters vs. Sean Payton dates back to Week 9 of the regular season. During the first matchup between these two teams, Saints WR Michael Thomas shredded the Rams secondary with 12 receptions for 211 yards and a TD. Following what turned out to be a Saints victory, Sean Payton made these comments when asked about Thomas’ big day:

Yikes. When Peters caught wind of what Payton was saying about him, he responded with my favorite quote to ever come out of a professional athlete’s mouth:

Of course Peters was right about seeing Payton soon, as the two met in the NFC Championship yesterday. But this time around, Peters backed up his talk. PFF ranked him as the Rams fifth highest graded defensive player with a 65.8.

Now I’m not going to sit here and act like I know exactly what that grade means, because I don’t. But I do know that the Saints wide receivers had zero impact on yesterday’s game. Ted Ginn Jr. led the way with a team high 58 receiving yards. As for Michael Thomas, who killed LA in the first matchup, he had just 4 receptions for 36 yards. Peters and the secondary as a whole stepped up big time in the rematch.

And as for literally SEEING Sean Payton again goes, well, Peters was true to his word about that too:

There’s really no denying the fact that this dude is just a quote machine. I can’t wait for what he has to say during media day leading up to the Super Bowl.
