Maple Leafs Newcomers

During the offseason, GM Kyle Dubas and President Brendan Shanahan were busy collecting new players to complement their already star-studded roster. As of late, the Leafs have been a team that struggles with cap space and adding depth to their roster has been a challenge. This season, Dubas and Shanahan brought three new guys in who I think have been excellent additions to the team. Presenting the lovely Ondřej Kaše, David Kampf and Michael Bunting.

Ondřej Kaše

Kaše, a Czech Republic native, was drafted by Anaheim in 2014 and has spent time playing with the Anaheim Ducks and the Boston Bruins. At first, like all players on a new team, Kaše seemed to take a bit of time to get used to playing with different guys and finding his “spot” on the already talented Leafs roster. As of recent, Kaše has been on a hot streak in terms of points. On Thursday night, Kaše scored two goals against the reigning Stanley Cup Champions. Kaše is working hard and always seems to be by the net, which makes him a stellar addition in my books.

David Kampf

Another Czech Republic native, Kampf signed as a free agent with the Chicago Blackhawks in 2017 after playing five seasons of the highest level of Czech hockey. Kampf has signed a 2 year $3M contract. For the way that he has been playing as of recent, I believe his salary is a steal. Last night, Kampf scored with about a minute and a half left in the third period to get the Leafs ahead 5-4 against the Blackhawks. We are lucky to have him and I’m looking forward to watching him excel with this team!

Michael Bunting

Another Scarborough born star! Michael Bunting has been such a star. He is hard-working, passionate and as of late, happens to be playing on the first line with Auston Matthews. It seems that Bunting has been playing with the team for years, his confidence and ease of play has been a pleasant surprise. The former Arizona Coyote has been outstanding to watch and you can tell playing in Toronto has been good for him as well.

Final Thoughts

These three new additions add a lot to the team, in my opinion. Kaše, Kampf and Bunting add more depth to the line-up and I’m not sure if I’m the only one who feels this way, but I don’t want to imagine the Maple Leafs team without them. After their short time with the boys in blue, I think they have had a great impact and are getting comfortable in their roles on the team. Looking forward to watching the growth and heat I know these three can bring to the Leafs.

Until next time, #LeafsForever
