Manchester United vs. Liverpool Preview

As the end of the English premier League nears, we have a huge matchup ahead between Manchester United and Liverpool. With less than 4-5 matches left in this years’ EPL, it is clear that Manchester United are putting a fight til the very last second.

In week 34, they face an incredibly important matchup against arch-rivals, Liverpool FC. So, how will each team look like and what will they need to win this game? Let’s get into that right away.

Manchester United

The Red Devils return to Old Trafford after a major battle in the Europa League against Roma AS. The Devils looked incredible as they stunned the Italian side 6-2 in the first leg of the semi-finals. Now the question turns to, how fresh is this squad coming into today’s game?

In an interview earlier today, the good news for United is that the only two injuries are Anthony Martial and Phil Jones. For Solksjaer’s side, it will be extremely important to rotate and bring in fresh pair of legs here against a Liverpool side with lots of rest. People like Donny Van de Beek, Dean Henderson, and Daniel James can all fill in while others rest.

A win for United today, would secure that 2nd spot in the English Premier League but also their return to the Champions League next year. May I add, that this year would be the first in 3 seasons, where United land ahead of the Merseyside arch-rivals for the first time.

Liverpool FC.

Big decision up top: Predicted lineup for Liverpool vs Manchester United

While there were signs of their centre-back, Virgil Van Djik practicing, Liverpool fans may need to slow their role a bit.

In this weeks’ press conference, Klopp was asked for an update on the Dutch man as he was seen doing runs. In typical Klopp nature, “Everyone runs in this team” was the answer. Funniest thing you’ll hear this week from him. However, for Liverpool this is a game that feels like do or die.

The reason this game feels like that is because of Champions League football hopes. The Merseyside will need to win these next 5 games all in a row and hope for no bumps in the reason while doing so, if they hope to go into Champions League competition this year. A victory for Liverpool today would be the first step of many they need to make as the season concludes.

Overall, expect this match to be a deadly fight between the two red sides.

So what can expect and predict from both sides?

Should the game carry on, expect this game to be drama-packed. For Liverpool, they are ready to come in and fight like hell to the very end. Expect Klopp to play the same 4-3-3 formation but with Jota being the center of the attack. I expect Klopp to put out the following from his side:

  • Alisson, Alexander-Arnold, Fabinho, Kabak, Robertson, Thiago, Milner, Wijnaldum, Salah, Jota, Mane.

Meanwhile United’s attack is firing off on all cylinders and their goalkeeping continues to be sharp with either decision between De Gea and Henderson.

For United, it will be essential for them to embrace their successful lineup of a 4-2-3-1 scheme. Leaving the likes of Edinson Cavani to be a lethal threat for Fabinho or Kabak who are going to try their chemistry again and see how they can defend. Here is my predicted lineup for United:

  • Henderson, Wan-Bissaka, Lindelof, Maguire, Shaw, McTominay, Fred, Pogba, Rashford, Fernandes, Cavani.

In terms of game score, if the game does happen I believe United will be fired up enough to pull thru. Liverpool come off tying things up at Anfield against Newcastle, and that tie exposed a lot of issues for Liverpool which United will bark at. My score prediction is 2-1 for United with goals from Marcus Rashford and Bruno Fernandes.
