Kyler Murray Chooses His Sport

For months, people have been wondering what two-sport star Kyler Murray is going to do. Will he choose baseball, where he was a first round pick for the A’s? Or will he choose football, and look to take his electric, Heisman-worthy skill set to the NFL? After declaring for the NFL draft, people assumed Murray would pursue football. However, questions still lingered. Baseball was the safer option in terms of injury, plus he knew he was already a first round pick with a $4 million signing bonus waiting for him. Murray could’ve entered the NFL draft, didn’t like where or who he was drafted by, and high tailed it to Oakland to play baseball.

However, any speculation has been put to rest. Kyler Murray officially announced that he will be fully committed to pursuing football. He took to Twitter and posted the following tweet:

“Moving forward, I am firmly and fully committing my life and time to becoming an NFL quarterback. Football has been my love and passion my entire life. I was raised to play QB, and I very much look forward to dedicating 100% of myself to being the best QB possible and winning NFL championships. I have started an extensive training program to further prepare myself for upcoming NFL workouts and interviews. I eagerly await the opportunity to continue to prove to NFL decision makers that I am the franchise QB in this draft.”

This announcement is big for Murray’s draft stock. Since draft picks are expected to contribute right away in the NFL (as opposed to baseball), teams may have been wary about burning a first or second round pick on a guy who might not even end up playing football. But with Murray fully committing himself and with the rest of the QB class looking weak, we could see the former Sooner climb the ranks and become a top 10 pick.
