Kim Ng Becomes First Female General Manager in MLB History

The Miami Marlins have been an absolute dumpster fire of an organization for the most part. Ever since they traded away Giancarlo Stanton and Christian Yelich, they’ve been trying to find a new identity. It also doesn’t help that their stud starting pitcher died (RIP Jose Fernandez), so they’ve needed a new direction. Well, that new direction started earlier today as they announced Kim Ng as their new general manager.

This move makes Ng the first female general manager. Not going to lie here, I’m a HUGE fan of this move and here’s why.

Her Resume

That’s a lot of experience to keep track of in one sitting. So let’s start from the very beginning. She started with the Chicago White Sox in 1990 as the assistant director of baseball operations. She then went to the Yankees from 1998-2001 and then to the Dodgers from 2002-2011. During both stints, she served as the assistant general manager. She then went on to be the Senior Vice President of Baseball Operations in the MLB front office from 2011-2020. Now, she will lead the charge for the Miami Marlins when they open up the 2021 season.

The Marlins Needed a New Direction

Let’s face it, this was a move the Marlins needed to make. Yeah, they made the playoffs this past season during the COVID shortened 2020 campaign. That’s great. Where do they go from there? Ng brings a variety of knowledge and passion to a Miami team that really needs it. Plus, she’s won at the biggest stage in a front office before. Three World Series titles? Yeah, Ng is a winner. The Marlins need a winner. It’s a perfect match.

In Conclusion

This is great for both sides. It’s a win for Ng because she gets her shot to run an MLB organization. It also gives the Marlins a chance to revitalize the franchise under new leadership. Congrats Kim Ng. Let’s see what you can do!
