John Farrell is OUT as Red Sox Manager

John Farrell’s tenure in Boston has officially come to a close, as the team announced today that he would not be returning as manager for next season. THANK GOD.

While Farrell was absolutely the right guy for the job back in 2013, he overstayed his welcome a bit. The things he accomplished as manager here certainly will not go unnoticed, a World Series title and multiple division titles are hard to dispute, but it was time. His poor managerial decisions hurt this team way too many times for me to be okay with him returning after ANOTHER early postseason exit. He should have been gone after last seasons collapse in the ALDS against the Indians, but nonetheless, he’s gone now which is all that matters. I just wish Lovullo was still here to replace him. The search for a new manager is officially on.

Dave Dombrowski said in his press conference this morning following this announcement that the teams search for a new manager would begin immediately, and it most likely wouldn’t be someone on the current staff. Guys like Alex Cora, Brad Ausmus, Ron Gardenhire, and Jason Varitek are some of the names floating around the rumor mill as potential replacements. We should learn a lot more about who will be his replacement after the postseason.
