Although it’s the middle of summer there is still some action going on at the rinks. Specifically at the 2019 World Juniors Summer Showcase being held in Michigan. The Bruins first round pick from 2019’s draft has been able to tally three goals in the games he’s played. John Beecher was the Bruins first round pick this year at 30th overall. Beecher is an 18 year old center who is a left handed shot.
Beecher is having a fun time playing for US Juniors in his home country and is leading the showcase with his three goals and has also added an assist. Although these games aren’t as serious as the WJC held in the winter it is still good to see Beecher succeed on a big stage for his country. Beecher has showcased some elite speed and athleticism by torching defenseman with his speed during this summer.
Here’s a highlight of his three goals scored so far.

Beecher is able to put the puck wherever he wants it and gets his shot off quickly. His elite speed allows him to break through defenses and he’ll always be a target when he’s on the ice. It will be awhile before we see Beecher debut for the Bruins as he will be playing in the NCAA next season for Michigan.
The Bruins still need to figure out their roster for this season before we worry about the future but Beecher looks to be a kid they will need. The Bruins have missed on some of their recent first round picks and as their core forwards slowly start to age they will need better luck drafting in the first round if they wish to remain a competitive team year in and year out.
