Jake DeBrusk is still a Boston Bruin

Bruins forward Jake DeBrusk notably requested a trade back at the end of November. The 25-year-old winger remains in Boston and early reports from Bruins beat writers are that the forward may slot in on the first line for fellow Bruin Brad Marchand, who is dealing with an injury after last night’s win over the Washington Capitals.

Bruins showcasing DeBrusk

With Marchand going down with injury, it appears DeBrusk will get an opportunity to fill in on the Bruins first line with Patrice Bergeron and Craig Smith. Bruins coach Bruce Cassidy made this lineup adjustment mid-game against the Capitals, and DeBrusk responded well with a goal and an assist. Prior to the game, it was announced that forward Nick Foligno would return to the lineup thus making rookie forward Oskar Steen the odd man out. From this fan’s perspective, this was more of a showcase move of DeBrusk rather than a knock-on Steen. All of this being pure speculation, of course. Now it seems both will enter the lineup with Marchand out and forward Anton Blidh also getting injured in last night’s game.

Where will DeBrusk land?

DeBrusk’s trade request is now almost two months old. It seems to be that Bruins General Manager Don Sweeney hasn’t found a trading partner. I would still be surprised if he remains with the club past the NHL trade deadline which falls on March 21st of this year. Arguably the Bruins biggest needs right now are a defenseman and a second line center. DeBrusk alone probably doesn’t return either of those assets. For now, all DeBrusk can do is continue to prove his worth and help the Bruins showcase his talents.
