J. Cole Signs With Basketball Africa League

Today, NBA insider, Shams tweeted that J. Cole will sign a three to six game contract with the Rwanda Patriots BBC of the Basketball Africa League.  His first game with be Sunday.

A few hours later, J. Cole tweeted that his sixth studio album, The Off-Season, will be released on Friday, May 14.

This is a huge week for J. Cole and honestly good for him.  He has been chasing that basketball dream for years and I’m glad he finally got his shot.  Regardless of the league, professional basketball is professional basketball.  We all have seen him in those high profile celebrity games at Lifetime gym against LeBron, Harden, and Carmelo.  We have also seen him hold his own in those games.

That video above is from August 3, 2020!  This guy has been training for almost a full year, all while working on his next album.  Which brings us to his Friday release, and arguably his most anticipated album release yet.

J. Cole’s last two albums, 4 Your Eyez Only and KOD, were extremely underwhelming compared to 2014 Forrest Hills Drive.  I still think FHD is his best work and as a hip-hop fan the game is better when J. Cole is rapping.  Now if The Off-Season flops, is J. Cole a bust?  I don’t want to jump to conclusions but if you put out three underwhelming albums back-to-back-to-back then you start to raise some eyebrows and lose some credibility.

But, I don’t think this will be the case.  I think The Off-Season will be good and much better than his previous two.  Judging solely off the three songs he released last year then we are in good shape if they are similar to that.

Time will tell if J. Cole has an awesome next Monday or an absolute shit one.  I think it will be an awesome one because like I said, hip-hop is better when J. Cole is rapping!
