Isiah Thomas and Michael Jordan Still Have No Love Lost

If you’re a sports fan, you know that ESPN’s docuseries, ‘The Last Dance’, has been airing on Sundays for the past three weeks. The worldwide leader of sports has shown us everything from Michael Jordan’s humble beginnings to Dennis Rodman’s mid-season vacation to Las Vegas.

The documentary has also gone over the relationship between Jordan and former Detroit Pistons point guard Isiah Thomas. I guess it would be suffice to say that neither player is a fan of one another to this very day.

Through the first 6 episodes, the docuseries mentions the rivalry between Thomas and Jordan numerous times. It shows us the “Bad Boys” and how Pistons’ players knocked Jordan down every time he got to the paint. The doc also shows us those same Bad Boys walking off the court without shaking any Bull hand after they lost their playoff series to Chicago in 1991.

Those issues, along with the exclusion of Thomas from “The Dream Team”, have created a nasty history between the two.

But history is history, right? It’s all in the past? Not for these two.

Mentioned in episodes 5 and 6 of ‘The Last Dance’ on Sunday, there was controversy surrounding Jordan’s reluctance to endorse Harvey Gantt in his attempt to replace Jesse Helms in the United States Senate. This was an issue because 1. Jordan wasn’t supporting a black politician (Gantt) and 2. Helms was racist, homophobic, and everything in between.

So, with that story hitting the news cycle again, is it any surprise that Isiah Thomas posted a picture of him and social rights activist Nelson Mandela on Twitter yesterday? I don’t think so.

I mean, there’s a reason why the first comment I saw on IT’s post was of him holding up a “crying Jordan” cut-out. And that’s because the hatred between the “G.O.A.T.” and Thomas still runs deep after all these years.
