Is The UFC Trying to Book McGregor vs Cerrone?

I think it’s fair to say Conor McGregor’s next fight is not going to be fore the lightweight strap. After getting dominated in his last fight a lot of fans say they don’t want to see McGregor get an immediate rematch. The fight most fans were expecting to see next was the final chapter in the McGregor vs Diaz rivalry. That was until last Saturday night when Donald “Cowboy” Cerrone broke two records. He is now the record holder for all time wins (21); he is also the record holder for most finishes in the UFC (15). Cowboy fought Mike Perry Saturday night and submitted Perry in round one, where he locked in a nasty arm bar. Not only did Cerrone break two records and get the round one victory, but he also did it in front of his town fans in Denver Colorado.

Cerrone said after the fight that he plans to move back down to 155 to finish off his career. When asked if he has any specific name he wants to fight at lightweight Cerrone replied with a very interesting answer. He said the UFC came up to him and brought up a very interesting name. He didn’t name that opponent but he has MMA fans buzzing about who his next potential opponent could be. Cerrone posted on instagram a photo of himself next to a photo of McGregor with the caption “Just waiting on him”.

These two have a history with one another, almost every press conference when both men are on stage together they go back and fourth at least once. It seems like the UFC has previously wanted to book this fight, but not everything fell into place. Now seems like the perfect time. With McGregor coming off a loss, and Cerrone coming off of arguably the biggest win of his career. Now is the perfect time to let these two men settle their differences inside the octagon. This would be a really exciting matchup too both men are excellent strikers. Cerrone has never been in a boring fight and McGregor makes any fight he’s in seem larger than life.
