Is A-Rod The Real Screwball?

If you are a baseball fan and looking for something to watch on Netflix, do yourself a favor and watch Screwball. I won’t ruin it for those who haven’t seen it yet, but it gives a more in-depth look into the Biogenesis scandal that hit baseball back in 2010. I was only 15 at the time, and for whatever reason, only really remember Ryan Braun being at the center of the spotlight, well at least more so than and A-Roid…excuse me A-Rod. Well, this reminded me that I was sadly mistaking and brought back all the reasons why I hate Alex Rodriguez.

Anthony Bosch

This guy is an interesting character, to say the least. As you probably know, he is the mastermind behind the whole biogenesis scandal. Well, that is what the fans were told. He plays a huge role and ultimately goes to jail for it, but to say he is the sole reason it blew up on Major League Baseball would be a false statement.

Major League Baseball

Bud Selig was the commissioner during the “Steroid Era,” including this scandal. Who was the guy leading this investigation? Rob Manfred.  No, I would not classify that as a positive thing to put on his resume after watching Screwball. If anything, it should lead to a more in-depth investigation of the entire league office. This documentary shows some shady stuff being conducted on the side MLB and it does not look good for Manfred.

A-Rod

Now to the guy who was center stage of it all. Rodriguez found a way to get the MLB to lessen his lifetime ban down to only 211 games. No clue how they settled on that number, but anyways, he deserved the lifetime ban if not jail time. Alex is a smart guy. I am not taking that away from him. He is also a major A-Hole. He does a great job acting and pushing all the right buttons for people to like him, but this documentary shows his true colors.

Conclusion

If you have not watched Screwball yet, do it. It is very enjoyable for any baseball fan, especially one in their mid 20’s who lived through it. There are way more parties involved than just Tony Bosch and A-Rod. Without giving it entirely away, it was basically a giant illegal drug ring. It is fascinating how it began and how long it was able to continue. Before quarantine is officially over, watch it. You won’t regret it.
