If You Had To Pick One, Do You Watch Avengers: Endgame or Game of Thrones?

April brings a lot of good things. It’s the first full month of Spring, the start of baseball, and of course April Fool’s Day. But this year, April also brings us the greatest month in the history of pop-culture. Arguably the greatest movie franchise of all-time and the greatest TV show of all-time are both coming to an end in April. I’m of course talking about Avengers: Endgame and Game of Thrones.

Game of Thrones will premiere its 8th and final season on April 14th and conclude on May 19th. Avengers: Endgame premiers on April 26th as the 22 film “Infinity Saga” starting all the way back in 2008 with Iron Man comes to an end. As a huge fan of both, it’s safe to say April is going to be insane for me and many others. But it also posses a fun hypothetical. If you could only watch one, do you watch Avengers: Endgame or Game of Thrones?

The Case For Avengers: EndgameAvengers: Infinity War has been called The Empire Strikes Back for a new generation. Which means that Avengers: Endgame will be the Return of the Jedi for a new generation; but bigger. Endgame has to wrap up story-lines not just from Infinity War, but from the previous 11 years of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. There are now reports saying Endgame will clock in over 3 hours long! While Infinity War mainly focused on the villain Thanos, Endgame will be all about the Avengers and their last stand.

I’m not expecting a bloodbath, but the fate of the Marvel Big 3 (Iron Man, Captain America, and Thor) is totally up in the air. Tony Stark, Steve Rogers, and Thor have all had their trilogy and now four Avenger movies. I can’t personally imagine seeing their stories going further after this even though the MCU will be going forward. How could you not want to see the ending after that Infinity War cliff hanger?

The Case For Game of ThronesWhile the MCU has been around longer than Game of Thrones (2008 vs 2011), we have spent more time with the GOT characters. 67 hours to be exact. The fate is also a lot more cloudy of the main characters. While we know that the MCU will continue after Avengers: Endgame, we know that this is the final season for Game of Thrones. There is a prequel series in the works, but its expected to take place thousands of years before events of Season 1. Aside from that, its reported that the Battle of Winterfell will be the longest recorded battle in the history of film. Not TV, the history of film!

Game of Thrones also poses more unanswered questions. Questions that have dated back to Season 1. What will happen when Jon Snow finds out who his parents are? Will the living defeat the Night King? Will the Clegane Bowl happen? Will Tormund finally bang Brienne of Tarth? And most importantly, who will end up on the Iron Throne?

My Pick: Before I make my pick, I want to say this up front. THERE IS NO WRONG ANSWER! But for me, its Avengers: Endgame. I have been invested with the MCU longer and I care more about the characters. Not only that, Infinity War left on such a cliff hanger, we have to know how the Avengers come back from this. I do believe this will be the final time we ever see Tony Stark, Steve Rogers, and Thor. I’m not going to miss that for the world. Enjoy the month everyone! Spring is coming but Winter Is Here.
