Week 1 of college football had it all. Upsets, breakout players, and…a coach coaching from a hospital bed from the press box?
Hugh Freeze, previously of Ole Miss, now Liberty, was forced to coach his team from a hospital bed in a press box due to a staph infection.

The Liberty head coach had surgery on August 16 because of a staph infection that entered his bloodstream. Freeze had initally had a herniated disc in his back so there are still the residual effects of that.

Freeze was forced to coach the last few practices of fall camp from a similar position. They had live streaming videos of the practice going to his office, and he’d coach players via walkie-talkie
Liberty may have lost 24-0, but one thing is clear; Hugh Freeze is a football guy.
