Hockey Community Rallies Around Olczyk
Late yesterday evening it was announced that longtime NHLer and current broadcast analyst for the Chicago Blackhawks and often NBC, Eddie Olczyk was diagnosed with colon cancer. Olczyk released a brief statement about the cancer and explained he would be undergoing treatment and is hopeful to return to the broadcast booth this season.
Personally I love Olczyk (Edzo) he’s a fun personality on the air with Doc Emrick and he is actually good at talking about hockey. Also, who doesn’t love hearing Edzo’s voice when they go top shelf in NHL 17? Edzo was a heck of a player in his day too he tallied 794 points in a career of 1031 games. Edzo is a hockey player so you know he’s a fighter and there’s no doubt about it.
An huge outpouring of love for Olczyk came from Twitter as he received love from his former teams and even just the NHL in general. The Blackhawks ownership was quick to voice their support of Olczyk stating that he will be supported by the Blackhawks during this process and that they hope to have him back soon. Olzcyk received many tweets and messages of support from all over the hockey community from players he played with and media members he has worked with. Fans and player alike were quick to support Edzo and hope and pray for the best possible outcome
Sending love to my buddy Eddie Olczyk. Terrible news to hear but I know he’s a fighter. Sending my thoughts and prayers. Cancer you suck!
