Halak Should Get The Nod For Bruins
Jaroslav Halak is experiencing a resurgence for the Bruins and they’ve loved every second of it. Halak has had a hot start to the season and he picked up another win last night with a 3-2 defeat of the Hurricanes. In that game Halak made 42 saves and a number of which were high pressure saves. The Bruins didn’t look particularly great as they gave up a multitude of chances and even a few odd-man rushes on the power play but Halak was able to stave off an impressive Hurricanes team. The Bruins offense was able to pull it together thanks to Marchand and Bergeron and put three goals away.
In the early going Halak is 4-0-2 in his 6 starts. He’s playing like a younger version of himself and boasts a 1.52 GAA and a .947 SV%. Halak has shown that he deserves the larger share of starts at least for now. Rask has struggled to start the season and has been bailed out by the great play of Halak. Rask starts the year with a 3-3 record and a 3.15 GAA and a .902 SV%. Those are not the ideal stats you want from your number one goalie. Rask got off to a slow start last season and eventually rounded into form, hopefully the same thing occurs this year.
Wins are important at every point of the season and right now Jaroslav Halak gives the Bruins the best chance to win. Halak has served as a number one for most of his career so this territory is nothing new for him and should the Bruins choose to ride the hot hand, I’m sure Halak could handle it. Hopefully Halak can push Rask back into being the goalie he is expected to be.
The Bruins sit tied for second place in the Atlantic with a 7-3-2 record. They are tied with the Leafs and are a point behind the Lightning.
The Bruins return to action Saturday night in Nashville against the Predators.
