Week 2 Recap
The Las Vegas Raiders are exactly where they want to be as a football team. They have started their season off with back to back wins and are currently tied for first place in their division with the Kansas City Chiefs. Their home opener on Monday Night Football could not have gone better after beating the prestigious New Orleans Saints 34-24. Now, they face their best test yet which is going to New England to play the Patriots. Belichick showed his genius like approach this offseason by signing Cam Newton to a very low risk high reward deal. Although they came up just a yard short of upsetting the Seattle Seahawks last weekend, Newton showed he is definitely on his way to becoming the Quarterback he was in years past.
Derek Carr and Darren Waller appear to be developing some serious chemistry which is deadly when the run game and Josh Jacobs are efficient. If Carr is able to play mistake free football which he has failed to do in his years in the league. This team has a shot to land into the playoffs which would cap off a fabulous start to the franchise moving from Oakland to Las Vegas.
The 1-1 Patriots will be scratching and clawing for a win this weekend to get above .500 on the season. However, the Las Vegas Raiders come to town with some serious momentum after their Monday Night Performance. Seattle was able to exploit a serious weakness on the New England defense and that is stopping the run. The Patriots had some serious trouble stopping the run in this young season but it has been overshadowed due to Miami being one of the worst five teams in the league and Russell Wilson continuing to put on a passing clinic last weekend. This matchup personnel wise favors the Raiders for several reasons.
The number one thing is the Raiders rarely use their wide receivers. Instead of having Gilmore take their best wide receiver out of the game plan, I expect Gilmore to spend some time on Waller as he is easily their go to target in the passing game. Josh Jacobs will have a huge day on the ground as the Raiders offensive line is much stronger than the Patriots defensive line. With that being said, I cannot look in the mirror and say that the Raiders will beat the Patriots. At the end of the day look for Cam Newton to will his team to victory both with his legs and the help of Julian Edelman and N’Keal Harry. Also, look for James White to find the end zone in a big game after losing his father in a tragic car accident last weekend. Patriots win 27-24.
