Gordon Hayward’s Player’s Tribune Piece Will Give You Chills

God damn. What a wild day. And it is days like today that will always make me say that there is not a thing in sports quite like the NBA offseason. I mean hell, one guy joining a team can alter an entire season for a franchise.

And I’m not here today to talk about the next step now with the Celtics because to be frank, I think that’s it. I mean what else is out there and who else can they get that would be worth it? Anthony Davis? No. Would I love that? You better believe it. But there’s not a chance in hell that Davis is coming to Boston. At least for this season.

But I urge you all to go ahead and read Gordon Hayward’s Player’s Tribune piece that was posted today titled, “Thank You, Utah”.

The piece that really shook me to my flabby core was when he starts talking about the winning culture that is in Boston.

There was the winning culture of Boston, as a city — from the Sox, to the Pats, to the Bruins. There was the special history of the Celtics, as a franchise — from Russell, to Bird, to Pierce, and it goes on.

And he goes on to talk about the amazing potential on the current roster and even the front office.

But then you keep reading and you see this as he talks about coach Brad Stevens…

And that unfinished business we had together, back in 2010, when I left Butler for the NBA … as far as I’m concerned, all of these years later, we still have it:

And that’s to win a championship.

That made me realize that this is very real. That made me understand that Hayward is coming here to this state and city to do one thing and one thing only… to win a championship.

That’s what we crave in players around here. We seethe for athletes who are here to compete and win championships. Not the ones who base their decisions in free agency solely on night life. Well… That’s mainly because our nightlife sucks around here. Bars close at 1:30. Are we serious Boston? Ah, and if you want to take the “T” home (our subway system for you out of towners), than in that case you need to get on by midnight or it’ll shut down on you. Nut case city.

Guys. This is real. Can you feel it now, Mr. Krabs? Sick Spongebob reference.

Gordon Hayward is a Boston Celtic and man, he just wants to bring home that championship trophy and hoist it high. I will make my bold prediction right here, right now. They will beat Cleveland next season and go to the finals and lose. Boom. Mark it down, baby.
