Fantasy Football: What to expect from new Ravens RB Le’Veon Bell

The Baltimore Ravens are desperate for running back depth after losing both J.K. Dobbins and Justice Hall. Both Ravens running backs will miss the season due to injuries. With a need for an experienced runner, the Ravens signed Le’Veon Bell on Wednesday.

The veteran Bell will be added to the Ravens practice squad. It’s expected that Bell will join the Ravens once he’s ready. Bell will join Gus Edwards and Ty’Son Williams as the only backs on the roster.

What fantasy value does Le’Veon Bell bring to yeh Ravens?

Bell’s name has more value than his actual fantasy value. It’s been a few years since the Pro Bowl runner has been Fantasy relevant. Bell’s last great season came in 2017 with the Steelers. He rushed for 1,291 yards with nine touchdowns and a 4.0 yards per carry.

Last season Bell split time between the Jets and Chiefs. Bell was released by the Jets after only appearing in 17 games with the team. Between the two teams, Bell rushed for 328 yards on 82 carries with two touchdowns.

Bell now lands in Baltimore who had the most rushing carries as a team last season with 555. Lamar Jackson has 159 of those carries while rushing for over 1,000 yards.

Bell provides depth for the Ravens, however between Jackson and Edwards it feels like Bell is on the outside looking in.

Le’Veon Bell fantasy expectations

Bell should fill the Mark Ingram role with the Ravens. Edwards had 153 rushing attempts last season followed by Dobbins with 152. Bell and Williams should share those carries.

Ultimately, Bell will likely cut into fantasy owners expectations for Edwards and Williams. If you are looking for depth you could stash Bell. As of right now, he’s worth rostering and waiting and seeing how the Ravens running game progresses.

If you stash Bell, just wait and see on how he produces. He is a true low risk, high reward player. Many fantasy owners will flock to the waiver wire for that mere hope Bell finds his 2017 form.

Only stash him in the deepest of leagues.
